Sprint Goes Ultra- Thin for Videowall at JFK Airport

X2O’s Xpresenter
X2O’s Xpresenter digital signage platform is being used at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, OK to facilitate communications between guests, players, and employees.

The Scharff Weisberg sales division recently sold 14 46-inch NEC MultiSync X461UN LCD displays to Tronic for the eye-catching, curved Sprint videowall in the American Airlines Terminal at JFK. The ultra-thin bezel allows for screento- screen distances between two adjacent displays of only 7.3mm — a nearly 450 percent improvement over NEC’s previous MultiSync 20 series displays. The barely-perceptible gap between the X461’s ensures an almost seamless image across all of the displays.

The videowall, designed by Tronic Studio in conjunction with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, showcases the functionality, speed and breadth of Sprint’s products and services. It also includes quirky information about New York City as well as real-time data about flights, weather conditions and traffic on major local roads.

Experiential design and production firm Formavision oversaw the fabrication and installation. Scenic Corp., under owner Randy Alexander, crafted an elegant custom frame to encase the 14x461 displays. Three Byte Intermedia served as AV designer and software programmer for the project and determined the most effective display configuration, as well as supplied a custom video solution featuring 11- megapixel native resolution frame sequence playback.

Scharff Weisberg’s sales division also furnished Three Byte with a complement of Dell computers and Matrox triple-head-to-go cards to complete the videowall’s connectivity infrastructure.

At Scharff Weisberg, Michael Alboher was video engineer for the project and T.J. Donoghue the installation supervisor. Chris Keitel programmed the videowall for Three Byte.

It really must be a big leap forward for both Sprint for their improvement of their videowall and for ScharffWeisberg for selling so many units of the NEC MultiSync X46 UNLCD which will really boost up their sales figures for the current year!! It’s really good to see these new technologies.

Having screens like this definitely brightens up the place and creates a more interactive environment than maybe what general lighting can offer. This is a great way for companies to display useful information to clients, and offers a new dimension of interactivity.

Scharff Weisberg is one of the very few sales companies that can provide comprehensive sales and support for lighting, audio and video products. This allows their clients to purchase any kind of entertainment technology secure in their knowledge that they will receive effective sales and service support. The 14 46-inch NEC MultiSync X461UN LCD will be very effective for any TV commercial production company to do advertising and commercials because of the eye-catching display.

Money speaks in volumes within the article. The humble display stand and or poster board appear redundant if we take this as an example of current trends. Yet business is still profitable and significant in volumes for the simple sign boards that are very much part of our business life.

Nowadays, people have become more inclined to using digital signage instead of posters or banners printed using ink. Perhaps it would save more paper, but it does sound like digital signage does use a lot of electricity. Given how bright they are, they would probably be more attractive to people.

It’s really good to see these new technologies being accepted so well and I am sure that this will encourage other brands to come forward with their contributions which will be good for the customers!! I am also planning for an exhibition for some of the items which my company has developed, I was looking for a good pavilion service , has anyone used the service of http://www.americanpavilion.com/ ?

This is a great video wall, although unfortunately, its programming seems to do little beyond sprint advertisement. I think if it offered a utility as well (useful information to travelers) then it could do better. A screen of this size could also offer a lot to people with vision disabilities as well.
